Tips to Make Work More Comfortable.
You’re back is killing you, it’s hard to concentrate and you’re so distracted by the work that’s piling up on your desk that you can’t get anything done. So what’s the problem? It’s quite possible that the comfort level of your work environment has something to do with all of the above.
A comfortable work environment is an essential aspect of productivity in the workplace. It doesn’t matter if you work from home or from the 86th floor of the WIllis Tower: if you’re uncomfortable, you aren’t working at capacity, which is probably costing you money. But comfort doesn’t just come down to plush seating, it's about the workspace environment as a whole.
Rightsize has some simple design tips to make work more comfortable without a major office renovation.
Think Ergonomics - The most important component of your desk job is sitting in a comfortable and ergonomic chair. A good chair will last for several years, while providing the ultimate in lumbar support to keep you sitting for eight hours at a time as painfree as possible. But don’t forget to consider the rest of your work environment, including your desk and keyboard. If you have to, get creative by stacking your computer monitor on a sturdy box to make it the right height so you don’t strain your neck.
Clear the Clutter - All of that clutter in your workspace eventually starts to blend in with the rest of your surroundings, so you don’t even realize how much it impacts productivity. At least once a week, clear out your desk from old papers, notes and crumbs that have built up. It will make it much easier to find what you need and start fresh the next day.
Personalization - Now that you have a comfortable chair and a clutter-free workspace, think about adding in some color. Whether that is framed family photos or artwork, incorporating a personal touch will make your workspace feel more homey. Plus, your spouse will be happy if he or she ever drops by the office.
Get a Plant - Adding a plant to your workspace can have a very soothing effect that most people wouldn’t think of. Get a simple pant that doesn’t require a lot of maintenance, like a bamboo. Just don’t forget to water it.
Natural Light - If possible, position your desk in a way that allows you to face the natural light source in the room. While this will be much easier if you have an exterior private office, it is still something that can be done with your workstation by asking your manager to slightly shift the configuration of the seating area. If that’s not an option, make sure to get exposure to natural light throughout the day, by either taking a walk outside, or working from an area with exposure to natural light.
